Today, a supporter of Last Generation Canada spray painted the Ottawa Tesla showroom pink. The action joins others taking place today throughout Europe and follows a similar action Last Generation Canada took at a Montreal Tesla dealership on March 19.

Last Generation Canada is demanding that Canada stand up to Tesla’s billionaire CEO Elon Musk, who is destroying democracies and spreading climate denial. Last Generation Canada is also calling on the Canadian government to create a Climate Disaster Protection Agency to help Canadians whose homes, communities, lives and livelihoods have been destroyed by extreme weather caused by fossil fuels. The group wants the government to pay for the agency by levying punitive taxes against the ultra-rich, who are overwhelmingly responsible for the climate crisis.

Starting at around 10 am ET, a supporter of Last Generation Canada covered the front of the Ottawa Tesla showroom with washable pink paint. The action is in solidarity with the Tesla Takedown Global Day of Action, which was held on Saturday March 29. As of 10:09 am ET, the supporter was still on site in Ottawa.

When asked what compelled them to take action, Eulalie Reesink-Babillon, age 19, said:

“I took this action because our government prioritizes Big Oil and corporate giants like Tesla over its own people. This year, Los Angeles burned, exposing the U.S. government’s complete lack of preparedness—29 lives were lost. Canada is just as unprepared for the climate catastrophes we’re going to see this summer. The Trump administration continues to condemn nonviolent resistance like ours, proving that civil disobedience is effective. The time for civil resistance is now.”

The action comes as the FBI criminalizes major climate groups in the US and President Donald Trump, a climate denier, escalates the expansion of fossil fuels and targets climate scientists. Here in Canada, politicians are talking about building more pipelines and Alberta premier Danielle Smith has been schmoozing with far-right Trump supporters in Florida while the wildfire season starts up in her province. Drought conditions have worsened and Canadians are gearing up for what will be another deadly summer with extreme wildfires, heatwaves and floods.

It’s clear – billionaires and politicians are waging war on humanity. Elon Musk has Trump in his back pocket. Along with their club of billionaire oligarchs, they are trying to spread their fascist dictatorship by fanning the fire of far-right hate. The exploitative capitalist system they fiercely protect is leading us to climate collapse. Everything we hold dear is in danger. It’s time for Canadians to disrupt business as usual to ensure our protection and make the rich pay for what they’ve done.
